This slidecast presentation on the Mars rover was extremely informative and ultimately very enjoyable. It gave great context in the beginning of the presentation. Discussing the impact of the cold war and the space race on American society, it explained how Americans came to view technological progress and dominance as something to strive for. It also did a good job of explaining how America as a country of innovators got to where it is today- leading the world in space exploration. One thing that I found particularly interesting about this slidecast was the idea that rovers are progress because they take humans out of the equation, and eliminate the risk human casualties. I do not disagree with that at all, but I think it’s interesting how much effort and funding we will put into designing a system that can prevent the death of a few, while we simultaneously design weapons that can eliminate entire cities in a matter of seconds. Just a thought. Great presentation, Ethan. Proud of you.
