I thought this was a really interesting slidecast. 3D Printing is one of the newest technologies, and I feel as if its boundaries haven’t really been found yet. I thought this was well-portrayed in the slidecast, with topics covering action figures, weapons, medical use, and more. In addition, the history of printing and how we advanced to 3D printing was also interesting – like everything else that concerns technology, printers got smaller as time went on, and like you referenced in the slidecast, there may be a time when we have portable 3D printers in our pockets. The information about what actually happens when you 3D print something was also new and good to know. One thing I noticed is that the slidecast wasn’t in Pecha Kucha format; some slides were longer than others, some shorter, etc. Another thing was that at around 3:55 in the presentation, the audio got spliced and played over itself. Overall, these are insignificant points, and the presentation was still really good.

My friends who live next to me have had two 3D printers for some time now and printed off a lot of cool little things, so it was really cool watching your slidecast to see the history behind the 3D printer and how it has changed to present day and what the hopefuls are for the future. From the creation of the Xerox printer, it’s crazy to see how technological advancements turned a massive, paper printer to a desktop 3D printer. I thought it was really cool knowing a Lafayette alumni founded a 3D laser printing company. In addition, I found the part of the slidecast about the 3D pistol to be very fascinating. It was cool to see that something like a gun can actually be printed via a 3D printer and work. A couple of years ago, Science Channel had a series about life would be like in 2052, and one of the things that they covered was 3D printed organs, and recently in China, they have been able to print noses and ears. So hopefully we will see even more advancements in terms of that technology. Overall, I really like your slidecast and you did a wonderful job in conveying the information. Good Job.

I really like this presentation, you had a lot of great information to tell. You clearly did you research because I often only hear people talk about bottoms up manufacturing when they refer to 3D printing, but you also included additive manufacturing. This is a field like many others today that seems to be expanding rapidly with too little attention being given to it. Because of this the direction that the technology takes seem to be almost completely in the control of the people that are making and using them. An interesting side effect of the self making spirit is that many of the people that use these machines also make them. There’s a whole creative community that is using them and pushing the horizons of what we can do with 3D printing. Overall a great job.

3D printing is definitely one of the coolest and most interesting technologies from our modern times. I thought this was a really great way to approach the topic- from presenting the future conceptions that we all have about 3D printing about producing organs to weapons and then backtracking to where it all originated from. The use of the assembly line and factories in the history of this product was a great way to show the transition and development of factories, which led to our modern day technologies. I also thought that the aspect of looking into commercial devices versus the development of at home devices was pretty cool. I think you did a really good job with this topic and I definitely learned a lot more about 3D printing
