I like that he started out by stating that the reason for future visions of cars that improve the safety of the road. Accidents were not uncommon because people did not have to pass a test before driving, resulting in bad drivers on the road. One issue with the slidecast was the background music. I felt that it was distracting (from the images and what you were saying). Another issue was the transitions. There were at least two transitions that were not timed right, resulting in your voice being cut off. I thought that you spent too much time on modern technologies that improve safety. I noticed on one of the slides that there was useful text on the slide and useful narration, making it hard to understand both. Lastly, the ending should have tied things in; say something like: “Then, as now, safety remains a priority and a concern in the automobile industry.” I learned that the 3-point seat belt was implemented into cars in the 1950s. I like that a combination of images and videos were used and that the panning feature was used to show information more efficiently. I thought it was interesting that horns were first technology envisioned to improve safety on roads instead of something that physically protects the driver and passengers. I liked that you mentioned automation being a feature of cars of the future and how automation is becoming more and more common in today’s cars.

Starting the presentation by stating the reasons for future safety improvements was a good idea. It built a background into the reasons we have certain safety features in today’s cars along, with why some of the traffic rules exist. . I am all for safety, but I often watch some of the car commercials today and think to myself that that the majority of these features are just marketing schemes, a new spin on an old idea. Take for example the idea of a headlight that turns with the direction of steering. This is not a new idea. It was actually introduced as an option on certain model Packards of the late 1920s. In 1948 a single rotating headlight mounted in the center of the car between the two fixed headlights was standard equipment on the Tucker automobile. If this is such a terrific safety feature why did it slide into obscurity for 60+ years. Is an autonomous car really safer? With the driver busy doing something else because he no longer needs to drive what happens when there is a failure in the system?
I did have a few issues with the presentation. I found the background music to be distracting. It made it hard to focus on what the narrator was saying. There were also some timing issues with a few of the slides where some of the narration was cut off and the overall time was extended. Other than the two issues mentioned I did find the presentation entertaining and informative.

I thought you did a very good job of summarizing the inventions of car safety. I thought it summarized the progression of importance of safety very well in cars. I thought you could have given a little more context on some of the inventions though. For example, what is the need for the self driving car? Why are we so attached and intrigued by its development. I also thought the background music was a little too loud because sometimes I had trouble hearing your narration. Other than those issues I really liked the Corvette slide and linking the Corvette to cars from the past. There needed to be more safety features because cars became bigger, heavier, and most importantly faster. I thought your visuals were very good and relevant and I liked how you combined modern images with the images of the future from the past. I enjoyed this presentation thoroughly because I think you did a good job and it related to my presentation of cars of the future in the 1950’s.

I enjoyed this presentation very much. The topic was interesting as it is very relevant to us today. I found the use of the music to add a good aesthetic for the background. However, I did find it a bit difficult at some points to be able to fully focus on the presentation with the songs that had lyrics- especially on the slide that had text. Other than that, I felt that the slide cast was really well made. The use of diagrams and videos such as the crash test clip kept the presentation interesting and helped explained the context of the presentation. Very well done.

Mr. Fogarty put together a well done slidecast. I found the background music to be a particularly good touch, as it kept thing interesting and fun. However, the second song that played, it might have been helpful to turn the volume down slightly so that the audience could better pay attention to the Mr. Fogarty’s speaking.
I learned that car safety was very crude back when automobiles first came out. No license was needed at that time and there were many accidents. When cars became more popularly purchased and driven, there was a need for bigger roads, and also highways. More highways and people driving at higher speeds meant the repercussions for accidents were more severe and therefore better safety features were needed. Much better safety features are being employed today, such as air bags and high end communication and algorithms are now used to increase car safety. Some cars have technology that allows the driver to see safely account for the blind spots. Still others have headlights that are able to turn when the car turns, enabling drivers to see around turns at night. The Toyota Prius has sensors that allow it to drive itself. Automatic driving may be the future of automobile manufacturing with the goal being to eliminate human error. Brakes are increasing in technology so that brakes would not lock up anymore and the new Lincoln has a collision warning system and if no action is taken the car will brake itself before a collision.
