Professor Dana Cuomo
Professor Cuomo is an assistant professor of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. She received her dual-title PhD in Geography and Women’s Studies from Penn State University. With interdisciplinary training in feminist theory and critical human geography, her research examines the intersections between institutional and interpersonal violence and the structural inequalities within experiences of citizenship and security. As a feminist social scientist, she utilizes ethnographic methods and prioritizes community-based research that incorporates local stakeholders in the research process, including designing research objectives and data collection. Her scholarship, including the projects developed with the GBV Research Lab, are informed by five years of combined experience providing advocacy services survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault and stalking in rural Central Pennsylvania and at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Professor Susan Hannan
Professor Susan Hannan is an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Northern Illinois University. She also works part-time as a licensed psychologist at the Center for Integrated Behavioral Health, where she also serves as the Director of Clinical Research. Professor Hannan’s research interests are in the broad field of traumatic stress. She has conducted research that examines risk and resiliency factors associated with posttraumatic stress disorder following interpersonal trauma, such as campus sexual assault and childhood abuse. She is also interested in factors that contribute to institutional betrayal following an unwanted sexual experience on campus. Individuals may experience institutional betrayal if they believe the institution to which they belong (such as a college) failed to prevent a distressing event from happening, or if the institution failed to respond adequately if the event was reported.

2024-2025 Research Assistants:
Lucy McShane ’25 (she/her)
Lucy McShane ‘25 (she/her) is a senior at Lafayette College pursuing a double major in Computer Science and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She started working in the GBV research lab in the winter of her junior year assisting with Phase 2 of the Harm Mapping Project. Professor Cuomo’s Feminist Research Design course exposed her to feminist research methodologies along with techniques for designing an interdisciplinary feminist project. She is devoted to contributing to projects that foster social change. Following this class, Lucy began working with Professor Cuomo on her Firearms Protection Order Project where she gained experience coding and analyzing qualitative data. She was excited to become involved with the GBV research lab particularly because of the direct impact it can have on students’ experiences on campus. Lucy is certified through the CITI program, certified in Atlas.ti, and has research experience in both qualitative and quantitative analysis. She is looking forward to the continued opportunity to collaborate and learn from her peers while working on meaningful projects.
Heather Reyes ’26
Heather Reyes ‘26 (she/her) is a junior at Lafayette College majoring in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She began working in the GBV Research Lab in the spring of her sophomore year, after taking Professor Cuomo’s Feminist Research Design course (WGS 285). She was interested in joining the lab as her interests and passions directly align. As a woman of color on campus, it is important to Heather to provide a safe environment for all individuals on campus, regardless of race, class, gender, etc. After learning about the benefits of feminist research/methodologies, she wanted to contribute to the larger Lafayette campus, and knew the GBVRL was just the place to do so! She is extremely excited to be joining the GBV research team. Heather is certified by the CITI program. She is looking forward to learning and working alongside her peers while working on Phase 2 of the Harm Mapping project.
