Mojave River Dam

The Mojave River Dam in Southern California could be at risk of breaking down due to an extreme storm which would send water flooding into communities in the Mojave Desert which is home of thousands of people. The 200 ft dam has never been breached, however after a 2018 study after an extreme storm it was found that water could flow over the structure, causing it to erode and fail.

The Balkans

The Balkan country is known for its free-flowing rivers, being free from dams and other developments. However, hydropower plants built by companies are starting to appear. 14 have already been built in Montenegro since 2013.  However, campaigners have decided to come together to fight against the mini-plants which they say will cause environmental damage. The youth movements have organized protests and protecting the rivers.

Merrimack River

Below is an image of the Merrimack River located in the Northeast of the United States. It spans 117 miles through New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine. Currently it is on the list of America’s top 10 most threatened rivers. Waste flows through the river and contaminates it and goes off it the nearest brook or stream.

Asian Carp

The image above is of the Asian Carp, an invasive species. The Asian Carp is originally from China, they were brought over to the U.S. to filter pond water in fish farms in Arkansas. They quickly spread across the U.S. They have no real natural predators and female Asian Carp lay about half a million eggs each time they spawn. These fish pose as a huge threat to boaters as the fish can leap out of the water if startled by boat engines often colliding with people and causing injuries.

river of horses

The image above is of a “river” of horses in Ireland. My grandparents own a horse farm in Ireland where they take care of them and train them for races. Multiple of my uncles are jockeys and I would help take care of them every time I visited. horses have always been a large part of my life since I’ve been young.

River Shannon

The image above is the River Shannon located in Ireland. It separates the West of Ireland from the wast and south. It is the largest river in Ireland. I have visited it multiple times during my yearly visits to Ireland. I would take walks along with my grandparents and uncles. It allows for many activities including fishing and kayaking. It is definitely a beautiful sight to see if you ever visit Ireland.

Hudson River

The image above is of the Hudson River in Piermont, NY.  I would spend most of my Saturday mornings here either going for a run or walking my dogs. It’s only about 10 minutes from my home making it easy to get there. The Hudson spans 315 miles through Eastern New York.  I have spent a large amount of time with my family and friends by the river.

Schuylkill River

This image is a picture of the Schuylkill River located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This river means a lot to me as I used to travel there almost every weekend for crew at my high school, Don Bosco Prep. We would have multiple regattas a year there, which were always a wonderful time. The Schuylkill River is where we grew as a team and made the friends I still have today. While waiting for our race we would eat some delicious chicken parmesan provided by the parents and ride around on our scooters. It was all fun and games until our race came. The races were intense as can be, but we always pushed through. I hold the Schulylkill very close to my heart as it was the base for many of my great experiences in high school.

Rye, New Hampshire

The picture above was taken at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, New Hampshire. Always being around rivers growing up in North Jersey, they have always been an important part of my life. Whenever my family traveled I always made it a focus point to travel to a nearby river. Two years ago, my family and I traveled up to New Hampshire to stay with some family friends. I was beyond excited for this trip because New Hampshire is a extremely water-based state. Many activities included fishing, crabbing, and it was home of the best lobster. When we made it to Odiorne State Park I fell in love. The river was blue as can be and was occupied by multiple  fishing boats.  The highlight of my trip to the park was walking along a rock trail that extended out to the middle of the river. Once I reached the end of the trail, I sat there, relaxed and at peace. The trip is definitely one of the best I have experienced.
