This site has been created to document and share the “best” practices or simply beta practices of how professors are using the ePortfolio to assess language learning (see form below to share your Best Practices). To date, five targeted teaching contexts (TTC) for language portfolio use have been identified:
- traditionally taught undergraduate language classes with emphasis on the “process” portfolio
- guided independent language programs (GILS) in which the truly advanced learner or the
student of a less commonly taught language can record progress and proficiency - capstone courses with emphasis on a “presentational” portfolio for applying to graduate schools and employment
- hybrid inter-institutional courses (HIIC) that use video or web conferencing technologies, in which the portfolio records progress and proficiency
- interdisciplinary portfolios for use by dual majors or for graduate students to document their language progress specific to their field of interest
In an effort to simplify and encourage submission, please fill out the form below explaining the “practice” and attach any documentation (course outcomes, rubrics, mp3, pdf’s, flv (for video files)) you would like to include. We will post your submission within 24 hours to the Best Practices page. Please note:
- All submissions should include appropriate tags, the TTC and the language .
- For video attachments, please use mp4 formats only.
- You must have student authorization for displaying their work.
