Updated Pre-Rough Cut: Feedback Appreciated!

Hey guys,

So my structure is a little further along now and I exported my project in one file. I wanted to do this before fall break so I could reflect on what I had since I won’t be able to edit. I’m still fine tuning and playing around (especially with the food pantry bit) but would appreciate any feedback on the following:

  • what cuts are the most powerful/informative?
  • what shots are superfluous and can be cut/cut down?
  • general comments on the beginning and ending (any suggestions for visuals in the blank space in the beginning?)
  • things that you think are missing
  • music suggestions are very very welcome

Thanks!

  1. Hey Megan

-I like the progression of the beginning. I think that a piano or acoustic guitar score that builds up to the title would do it justice.
I also think you could start the first person at :35 or :04 becuase then the voices might build more linearly. I felt her energy in the beginning started high, dipped and built back up to the middle.

-The comment about “does the hunger coalition feed people” could go in the end to bring everything full circle and add to the idea of it being everyone bigger societal issue.

-I know you don’t really want to shoot more but there are some farms along 611 South (if you drive to the gas station on the scenic route and make a left at the light). Getting some local farm footage could help and add to the fact that is urban- rural and suburban communities working together

-Have you thought about introducing the “Project Garden” by showing it’s relatively close proximity to the circle on a map?

-I enjoyed the explanation of how the food is packaged by Carolyn Servo. The energy and sound of the lady’s voice is fluid with the B-roll

-For the Food Access part, i think putting Christina P. after the shots of the students cooking would be a nice transition. The “i feel successful when” comment can come in the compilation in the end

-For the kids, you can put stats from the school sites and in general use things like Social Explorer(even though statistics are delayed) i look up some on poverty and family structures but i can’t put it into this reply

-Also, i have an article from my education class that shows the effect that hunger/poverty has on kids at school. Let me know if you want me to pass it onto you.

  2. This is all extremely helpful! I definitely have some edits to make when I get back to campus. Thanks for taking the time to watch. And I’d love to see that article if you have a chance to send it to me.
