The last year was one of Phish’s most celebrated, and occasionally controversial, tours in years. With jams that make it seem like the band is going through a renaissance of sorts, a new album on the way that was debuted on Halloween night (to the annoyance and celebration of many fans), and a packed schedule of full band concerts and solo projects, it seemed like Phish had finally gotten back into the groove for the first time since their return in 2009. So fans have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of this year’s summer tour dates. Until recently, the only confirmed summer appearance was at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on April 26th. But a new video recently announced the upcoming summer dates to the awaiting public.
As is usual for Phish’s tour announcement videos, the announcement is made intheir expected humorous style. The video seems to be a parody of Chinese action flicks. During the video a helicopter lands on a rooftop of a skyscraper in what appears to be Hong Kong. A suited man gets out of the helicopter and approaches the camera. He shows what I assume to be is a list of tour dates, says something in Chinese, and then burns the list. As he heads back to the helicopter “Carini” begins to play. After he gets back in the helicopter and fly off, the tour dates are shown in English. Check out the video below.
The band will be spending the month of July and early August going around the east coast and will be heading to Colorado at the end of August for a run of dates at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The band will probably have the rest of August off, as the Trey Anastasio Band has already confirmed their appearance at the Peach Festival in mid-August. The 4th of July will be spent at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, during the band’s three-night run there. Other three-night residencies will be spent at Randall’s Island in New York, First Merit Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in Chicago, and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO. According to the video description, there will be no more east coast dates for the summer or next fall. However, that leaves the band open for a west coast tour in the fall.
