New moe. album due in May

For better or worse, jam bands like moe. will always be primarily considered a live phenomenon. It is difficult to capture the magic that happens on stage in the sterile studio environment. However, the circumstances surrounding moe.’s eleventh studio album, “No Guts, No Glory”, make it seem that the music will be, if nothing else, interesting. First off, the producer is Dave Aron. Aron has spent the last twenty years making a name for himself in the world of hip-hop. His past collaborations include work with Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dog, and Dr. Dre. He has done some work with Prince and U2, so he is not a newcomer to the rock genre. However, these artists are pretty far removed from moe.’s freewheeling, Americana rock. How the band will sound with Aron at the helm is anyone’s guess. Hopefully he will be able to focus moe.’s impressive musical abilities into something on record.

Aron spent a month in the recording studio with the band, working on new and some road tested material. The album was originally intended to be an acoustic record, however logistical problems made that impossible. According to guitarist Chuck Garvey,  “we ended up making a whole different thing.” The album will included eleven tracks, with three more added to the deluxe version. The new album is due out on May 27, 2014 on Sugar Hill Records. Check out the album artwork and tracklist below.

Are you excited for moe.’s new album, or would you rather see them at Summer Camp? Do you think their choice of producer was a bold move? Let us know what you think.
