This was amazing Mia! I really like that you spent time discussing the things that Dolores Huerta is still doing today in defense of farmworkers rights – I didn’t know that she was still so active! I think you had a really nice flow and speaking pace, so your words were easy to follow and understand. This was super nice to listen to! To improve for next time, I would recommend maybe using even more voice clips like the awesome ones you put at the beginning and end. Maybe there are a few short ones where she is speaking about some of her intersectional experiences as a poor Latina woman, or her discussing how she feels about being written out of history. Overall, this was really great, I learned a lot, and you sounded really comfortable speaking which made everything work together really smoothly!
From your podcast I learned so much about who Dolores Huerta is. My podcast was about migrant workers, and after listening to this I have a greater understanding about how migrant farmworkers became able to unionize through her hard work. She also did so much to establish a minimum wage for these workers, ban certain pesticides, and organizing strikes. She is still active today and is fighting for her story to be told in history books.
One thing to improve upon for next time is including other audio clips to break up or transition between ideas. Also at certain times the volume was quiet and would fade back in. I would try to equalize this (I have no idea how editing works so if this isn’t possible ignore this comment) or if it was an intentional fade in maybe add some music to the background to signify a transition or new idea.
Overall, I really liked how passionate you are about Dolores and her work and that really shows in your podcast.
Coming into this, I knew nothing about Dolores Huerta or any of her work. It was great to learn all about the work that she has done and still does to this day. I think it is so important that instead of fighting for others, she gave others the platform to fight for themselves. I loved your delivery during the podcast, as you clearly knew a lot about the subject but were also able to make it engaging and interesting for the listener. Even though the podcast was on the longer side, it really didn’t feel like it, as most, if not all, of the information provided was extremely relevant. An improvement that could be made for next time is to maybe bring in a couple more quotes from Dolores herself if possible. The introduction quote was very powerful and a great hook, and I think it would be interesting to hear a bit more about some of the other quotes of hers that she is known, or potentially not known for. This was a great presentation and it was really great to hear the energy and engagement in your voice as you discussed Dolores Huerta.
