Interview Rough Draft

Hey guys!

This is the link to my rough draft of my interview assignment. Its missing a lot. Mainly, I think it needs more b-roll and maybe a better shorter intro. Let me know what you think!

  1. Reggie! This was a really unique interview to watch and I enjoyed its differences from most others I’ve seen. My first question is how did you get those aerial shots of Lehigh? I really liked your hook because I had no idea where you were going with it, but I think it was had a comical nature and led nicely into your subject. Something we spoke about in class was having less of our own voices in it, and more of the subject’s voice. This would be difficult to change because of how you shot the interview with you in the picture, but I think if you just cut a few of your questions out, you’d be able to shift even more of the focus onto your subject. You stated you were worried about not having enough B-roll, but I think most of your B-roll worked well and was fun to watch. If anything, I would suggest just breaking it up a little more so we don’t see too much of your you and your subject for too long a period of time. Overall, I think this was a strong first cut and you definitely have a good subject and a lot to work with. I also enjoyed the music, and think it tied the piece together nicely.

  2. Hi Reggie!!

I really like the opening of this film with the voice over. The script was well written and articulated nicely it really grabbed the viewer’s attention. I also loved the juxtaposition of the beautiful campus verses the party scene. At first, I wondered why the footage was smaller for the party scene (assuming now they were just shot on a different camera), maybe you could play with the film and see if you can make the footage full screen? But honestly, if you are not able to expand the footage I don’t think it is the biggest deal because the more I watched the more I like the messiness and blurriness of footage. It all adds to the madness that is the party scene at Lehigh, and the music you picked flowed with footage perfectly!

Overall, really liked how you set up the interview. I like the comfortableness of the interview. I think it could be sometimes risky to insert yourself into the interview, but in this case, I think it really works well with the film. I think the fact that you narrated the beginning is what really pulls it all together because the audience hears your voice throughout.

I think for future interviews especially if you are going to include yourself in them than you should make sure you and are subjected are both centered. I know this might have been hard because you obvious couldn’t see yourself in the shot when filming. But I just feel like because the camera was a bit more centered on you, I found myself watching you more than Jasmine. But I do think you shot the interview in a great spot, make it seem like you are in a studio of some sort.

I see you wrote about adding more b-roll to the interview. I think it would be really interesting if you could get footage of Jasmine actually DJ-ing. Overall think the film could use more music and b-roll. Maybe you could get some footage of her using her board and use that as b-roll, when she talks about her board and how that rapper has the same one as her. I know it is a rough cut, but I think the interview ended a bit weird almost of if she was cut off. I am not sure if she had more to say about the future and her career, but I think that would be interesting to hear about if she did have more to say. I think the subject is super interesting and I can’t wait to see how it all comes together!
