Investing in Success
A major component of the Athletics Strategic Plan calls for establishing a fundraising plan that supports athletics annually and secures major gifts for future sustainability. In order to build a championship program and enable student-athletes to compete at the highest level, fundraising, most notably in the area of athletic scholarships, is critical to future successes.
The disparity of athletic scholarships is striking when comparing levels of resources among Patriot League competitors even though athletics as a percent of institutional expenditures is completely aligned with the rest of the league. We know that athletic scholarships are a key component to building championship teams. They enable schools to recruit top athletes, regardless of their family’s financial situation.
The Leopards Champions Fund is at the heart of Lafayette’s goal of building a championship program. In 2017, a group of dedicated Lafayette alumni contributed $1 million to establish the Fund, which aims to fill the gap in scholarship support that currently exists at Lafayette. But, $1 million is not enough. While some sports are at their maximum number of scholarships, many are not.
