Artist statement:
For as long as I can remember my work has been about the moments in between – a transference of energy that can’t be seen – but only felt or understood on some sort of visceral level. This transference can be beautiful, menacing or peaceful. This is true of the Frozen Charlottes Series as well.
About the auction item:
Charlottes in the Storm V, 2014/15I first started the Frozen Charlotte(s) series in 1998, based upon the Frozen Charlotte dolls and their namesake two epic poems. The early Charlotte drawings began as faerie tale surrogates – working out unseen, ignored childhood traumas and loss – some my own, some belonging to others. I have grown as person and an artist, the Charotttes’ still remain my faerie tale surrogate – but not only mine. My stories are Her stories. And Her stories are my stories. Stories of invisible women and girls everywhere.
