Who’s In/Who’s Out of the 2014 NBA Draft – List

The current date for college underclassmen and international players to declare for the 2014 Draft is April 27th, however the NCAA requires players who plan on returning to school to announce their intentions by April 16th or risk being ineligible the following year, should they return to school. What this means is that a player who has declared for the draft is no longer able to withdraw and still maintain collegiate status (assuming they have not yet hired an agent) after this point. Players, however, can keep their intentions silent until the April 27th NBA deadline, but once they declare there is no going back. Since NBA teams are prohibited from contacting players before the official NBA deadline and college players must decide in accordance with the NCAA’s deadline, the ability for college underclassmen to gauge their draft stock and team interest is dramatically less. This is an unfortunate situation perpetrated by the NCAA and adds unnecessary risk and confusion into the draft process. As a result, (we expect) a number of players will declare under the false belief that they will be picked or are good enough to play in the league. As both leagues work to find a solution to this complex situation (possibly as soon as this summer), we have a fairly significant number of underclassmen and most interestingly, freshmen declaring for this year’s draft.  Here is the list, it will be updated as more underclassmen announce their decisions in the coming week.
