Hello all! As an introductory post to this blog, a bit of background information about Lafayette College’s Visual Resources Collection (VRC) might be in order, as well as a brief description of what services the VRC offers to students, faculty, and staff here at Lafayette College.
Lafayette College’s VRC provides and facilitates access to images, imaging tools, and related information resources for teaching and research at Lafayette College. We are located in the Williams Visual Arts Center in room 208.
We provide access to digital images for educational purposes. Our collection is constantly growing and directly reflects the needs of faculty, staff, and students at Lafayette College. Our collection is accessible through ARTstor, an online digital image library that is also accessible through the library website. ARTstor gives Lafayette students, faculty, and staff access to over one million digital images in the arts, architecture, humanities, and sciences with an accessible suite of software tools for teaching and research. ARTstor is adding new images all the time, so check this blog often for updates about new collections.
The VRC also houses the Digital Imaging Center (DIC). As a satellite facility of Skillman Library, the DIC houses the equipment necessary to digitize a wide variety of materials including slides, print materials, and larger format works.
This blog acts as a supplement to the VRC website and will feature news regarding image collections and resources, as well as new imaging tools, copyright information, and other topics related to the use of visual resources in research and teaching.
