Program
The “Shakespeare and Race” colloquia foreground race—its emergence, adaptability, and scope—within a historical perspective to fortify our understanding of an issue whose social impact is felt everywhere today. With the growing contemporary emphasis on acknowledging race as central to academic inquiry, social justice, cultural and economic diversity, global and multicultural studies, and the fundamental questions of inequality, the rigorous study of race is timely and urgent. While professional scholars and graduate students often participate in such colloquia, “Shakespeare and Race” also addresses an undergraduate audience as part of its inclusive goals.
“Shakespeare, Race, and Queer Sexuality” is the third in the series of “Shakespeare and Race” colloquia at Lafayette College.
