We decided to take a train down to Bologna to eat some authentic food and watch the second stage of the Tour de France!

Our train left at 8:40 am and was 30 euros per round trip ticket. The train took about two hours and we beelined for the competition village as soon as we got off the train. the riders wouldn’t be finishing until much later so we bought some super cool merch at the official pro shops and sat down to eat. We made a reservation at Trattoria da Me, famous for its authentic lasagna only served on Wednesday lunches (lucky us!). We had an incredible first course of fried bread with cured meats and both got the lasagna at our server’s recommendation. The meal was incredible albeit a little pricy at around 15 euros per dish.

We then found a shady street to relax on before the riders arrived in the city, watching the live updates from our phones. The final part of the loop contained two laps of the city, meaning we got to see the riders four separate times as they crossed back over our streets. We cheered on our favorite riders and teams and had so much fun in the crowds!

After the race had finished, we made our way back down towards the train station, passing all the team trucks and glimpsing some of the famous riders taking interviews. We reboarded the train at 19:10 (7:10 pm) and returned to the city late in the evening.

See below some of our pictures and videos from the trip!
