Devils Tower

Did you know Devils Tower was tho first national monument? Teddy Roosevelt named it such in 1906. We took a beautiful 1.3 mile hike around the base of the Tower. It was amazing and the pix don’t do it justice. There is debate over how it formed but most say it was formed by igneous rock underground. The sedimentary rock around it eroded away and here it stands. It used to be taller than its 1200 feet as evidenced by all the rocks at the base. Here endeth the geology lesson.

On the road to our campsite. Saw some prairie dogs and more cattle. Hope to see mount Rushmore lit up tonight.

Blogging on an iPhone is challenging so please excuse the spelling errors.

Moo

On I 90 headed east. Pretty barren stretch Ruth a few cool ravines and lots of cattle. Saw some big bird with serious talons fly by. Got 80s music on the satellite radio so moms happy.

Survived campground number 1

Had a great night in Sheridan WY. Very nice small campground with all we needed. Clean showers started the day off right at 7am. Tim is cooking a campers breakfast if bacon and eggs. The RV makes for a close family but the gang is doing elk. No blood drawn yet.

Today we go to Devils Tower. Movie fans will remember it from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I will post pic later. Gotta run, the chuck wagon bell is ringing!
