Grace Steurer
Major: Integrative Engineering with a Focus in Biology
Interests (for this project and in general): I am very interested in improving the western medical system and the overall health of the American population. I am specifically interested in researching and combating chronic health conditions. Outside of school, I spend my free time playing volleyball, cooking, and painting.
Fun Fact: I adopted a dog.
Alex Barlow
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Interests (for this project and in general): In engineering I am very interested in medical devices and innovations for supporting human health and wellness, but I am also a big motorsports fan and fan of all the amazing engineering that goes into that field as well. Outside of school I love to ski as much as I can in the winter, as well as going to the gym.
Fun Fact: I got my appendix removed last summer using tools made by the company I was interning at.
Lauren Schuster
Major: Mechanical Engineering, bioengineering minor
Interests (for this project and in general): I have always been very interested in helping others as much as I can and I was always fascinated by the medical industry. I choose to be an engineer so that I can work with mechanical parts to solve different problems. This project allowed me to combine both of my interests. Outside of school I love traveling and hiking and anything outdoors.
Fun fact: I’ve hiked up an erupting volcano.
Yizhu Chen
Major: Mechanical Engineering major, Math minor
Interests (for this project and in general): I am very interested in designing any kind of thing, manufacturing it, and improving it.
Fun Fact: I climbed Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in China, to an elevation of 4,680m, when I was in primary school.
Bobby Oehrlein
Major: Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering minor
Interests (for this project and in general): I am interested in the idea of combining mechanical engineering with the medical device industry. Being able to create something that can positively change someone’s life is something that I am extremely passionate about. Outside of school, I spend most of my time running, watching Survivor, or hanging out with my friends.
Fun Fact: I have three dachshunds (weiner dogs).
Zachary Fiske
Majors: BSE Integrative Engineering: Bioengineering, BA Chinese
Interests: With regards to senior design, I am excited to practice solid teambuilding skills and to work on a project with practical bioengineering applications. I am passionate about sports research, particularly in the emergent field of ultrarunning where traditional common wisdom gets thrown out the window and our understanding of the human body gets pushed to the limit. In my free time I enjoy mountain running, baking, cartography, and going on adventures with friends and family.
Fun Fact: I hold the New York State record for the slowest time in the 200m backstroke.
James Galbraith
Major: Integrative Engineering, Bioengineering track
Interests: I am very interested in the applications of engineering principles in the medical space. I have a passion for the healthcare industry, given that I have many family members and friends in the medical field, and being able to combine this with my engineering background would be very fulfilling. Outside of school, I enjoy exercising, playing soccer, listening to music, and playing the piano.
Fun Fact: I toured an active Los Angeles class submarine in Pearl Harbor.
Nate Bontje
Major: BSE Integrative Engineering; Bioengineering, Data Science Minor
Interests: I’ve always wanted to use engineering to improve the health sector of the US. I want to work with medical devices and hard procedures/tests easier for both doctors and patients, with the eventual goal of working on selective drug delivery/drug design. Right now, I love to play Ultimate, ski as much as I can, and movie night with friends.
Fun Fact: I love both water skiing and snow skiing
Darby Aurelien
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Interests (for this project and in general): Within engineering I am very interested in artificial intelligence, prostheses, and overall the improvement of devices in the medical field. I have a passion for helping people and I would find it fulfilling to do so with engineering in the future, especially in developing countries and underserved areas. Outside of school I enjoy playing basketball, snowboarding, watching movies/films, and making music.
Fun Fact: Favorite ice cream flavor is mint chocolate chip and I love sparkling water.
