Throughout the 2022-23 academic year, our team is committed to developing a product that solves a problem in the areas of renewable energy, food/drink, and streamlining Lafayette’s campus. We will work in sub-teams and remain in constant contact with the larger group throughout the design process. We plan on following the disciplined engineering process of problem scoping and interviewing, design, and finally prototyping. We plan to have a fully functioning prototype by the end of the year.

Team Purpose

We are committed to developing a solution for the washing station at LaFarm, as it is currently both inefficient and operates under unsanitary conditions. We also plan on solving the problem of wasted water that can be reused to save resources.

Duration and Time Commitment

The team is commissioned to work together over the course of the 2022-2023 academic school year, totaling 9 months. We will be spending 6 hours of class time together, as well as meeting outside of class when needed.

Scope

For LaFarm, we plan on re-designing the wash and pack station in order to make it more efficient. We also plan on designing a water collection system that will distribute water to the wash station as well as provide water for the irrigation system in the new greenhouse.

Desired End Result

Have a fully functioning prototype by the end of the academic year through a rigorous process of problem scoping and stakeholder interviews, design, and building.

Supporting Resources

Using regulated guidelines to establish constraints and guide our process. These include Bon appetite’s constraints, GAP certification, USDA organic certification, and forks township regulations.

Reporting Plan

There will be biweekly updates conducted individually by each team member outlining the activities and progress of the prior 2 weeks, as well as communicating an agenda and plan moving forward. There will also be a weekly progress blog highlighting the most significant achievements of that week.

Deliverables

Deliverables include the website, presentations, bi-weekly check-ins, and the final prototype. The details for these deliverables can be found on the course syllabus.
