About Dr. Shaman:

Dr. Jeffrey Shaman is currently the Business Development Lead and Associate Manager of the Translational Genomics Division for GENEWIZ, Inc. Originally interested in a medical career, he received his BA in biology during his undergrad years at Rutgers University. During his junior year at Rutgers, he found his passion in research and consequently got his master’s degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry, which is now part of Rutgers University, in cell and developmental biology. He then moved on to get his PhD from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Shaman then got a faculty position at the University of Hawaii for a few years in which he published many papers and a book chapter. After Hawaii he moved into the stem-cell field working at Harvard Medical School and a private stem cell foundation. Dr. Shaman then made the decision to move into industry and is currently involved in the regulatory aspects of how genomics can be used in the pharmacy and biotech industry.

Dr. Shaman came to Lafayette College Wednesday, February 12th, 2014 to give a seminar on the future of personalized medicine. Afterwards he met with students for a discussion on his background and the various implications of personalized medicine.
