Dr. Offit touched on a number of critical components that have driven the anti-vaccine movement to evolve and perpetuate, despite the plethora of experimental data that has come out in opposition.
“Busted: Three Common Myths” is a video playlist which tackles the three top prevailing myths about vaccines and autism. First, that MMR (the vaccine for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) causes autism. Second, that the Thimerosal in the MMR vaccine causes autism. And, finally, that too many vaccines are administered in too short of a timeframe. Dr. Offit addresses each of these myths carefully, and provides a number of resources to back up his findings.
“Anti-Vaccine Movement Origins” will discuss the four likely reasons for the development and propogation of anti-vaccine propoganda– in particular, the difficulty that epidemiological studies have in dispelling the concerns of the public.
Finally, Dr. Offit tackles the number of harmful ways in which the media has done a poor job portraying scientific information to the general public. “Media and Cultural Biases” is a series of five clips, which all independently discuss the fallacies of the media in presenting scientific conclusions.
