Gang Yao is a professor in the Department of Bioengineering at University of Missouri-Columbia. He received his B.S. in Physics from Nanjing University in 1989 and his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 2000. He worked for GE Medical System from 2001 to 2002 as a software engineer prior to joining the faculty at University of Missouri in July, 2002. His research focuses on developing new optical imaging systems and analysis algorithms for biomedical applications. He received an Early Translational Award from Coulter foundation in 2006, a CAREER award from National Science Foundation in 2007, and the Gold Educational Award from Edmund Optics in 2014. He has published 76 research journal articles, and over 80 proceeding papers and conference abstracts. His current research is funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
