Today we had the opportunity to visit both Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. Driving up to the 11,000 foot level on Mauna Loa (to the Clean-Air Observatory) we were able to look back at Mauna Kea and compare the morphology of the two volcanoes.
This was followed by a trip to the summit of Mauna Kea at 13, 796 feet, the largest mountain in the World measured from it’s base on the ocean floor (33,100 feet). Conditions were challenging, 30 degrees with a 20+ mph breeze!
