After morning lectures on weathering and soils we venture out to examine the geology of West Maui. This included stops in the Iao Valley, seacliffs near Mahinanui, saprolitic soils  and fossil sand dunes in Wailuku. The day was capped by a discussion n the vertical movements of the Islands as they age.
