What is our Summer 2025 Project?
This past summer, researchers worked to create:
- A comprehensive dataset detailing poll worker conditions and requirements to work across 3,915 US counties and townships, including information on working hours, compensation, training requirements, and eligibility criteria;
- A summer report, informed by preliminary reading on poll worker public service motivation, training methods, recruitment, and retention.
Research Questions:
- Q1: How do regulations and working conditions vary for poll workers across the nation?
- Q2: What barriers discourage participation, and what incentivizes participation?
- Q3: How does the decentralized system of selecting, training, and retaining poll workers impact American democracy?
