Welcome to the Gabel Reading Research Lab
In our laboratory we are exploring how genes and maze solving skills are linked to reading ability. Brain pathways that are activated during different aspects of reading, such as linking letters with sounds, are also recruited when solving mazes. This virtual maze task allows participants to navigate a maze (not unlike a corn maze you might experience at a Fall Festival) as if you were walking through the maze yourself. Our research suggests that future reading ability may be predicted based on performance on this task.
