Christie McVie Reunites with Fleetwood Mac

While they might not be a jam band, Fleetwood Mac are elder statesmen in the world of Rock’n’Roll. So, news of Christie McVie’s returning to the band after a 16-year absence is big news. While rumors of McVie’s return have been swirling for a while, recently an extensive list of tour dates have been announced with this classic lineup. The On With the Show tour sees the British/American band performing 34-shows in 33 cities throughout the United States and Canada.

The last time Christie McVie joined the band was for a rendition of “Don’t Stop” during their show in London last fall. A month after this one song reunion, the band’s tour was disrupted when it was revealed that John McVie had cancer. It appears the disease is under control now, since the band is about to embark on this extensive tour. So it seems like there are reasons to be cautiously optimistic.

The return of Christie McVie raises another question. Does this mean we might see new music from this reunited band? After all McVie was one of the band’s main songwriters during their 70s heyday. Unfortunately (or luckily, depending on your point of view) it seems unlikely at this point, and there has been no mention of anything in the works . The band’s last album of new material, Say You Will, was released over ten years ago.

The setlist for this tour will probably be packed with hits from the bands 70’s commercial peak and the shows should be exciting spectacles. With Christie McVie back in the followed I am hoping to see “World Turning” brought into the setlist. Check out the band playing this thumping number on the Midnight Special in 1976.
