Great job! I had never heard of the Harvest of Shame documentary before. However, I feel more aware of the conditions of immigrant workers today, most likely because of the power of this documentary. You made an interesting and valid point at the end of the podcast when you questioned if anything has really changed. It is disheartening to see no major changes to a system despite public outcry. I really liked your incorporation of music and sound clip from the documentary. The clip you chose was effective in conveying the impact on children of migrant workers. A recommendation I have is to remove external sound. There seemed to be a fan sound in the background that distracted me from the content of your video. Another recommendation is to include a couple more sound clips. Not having too many is important, but they can help draw the listener in more. The sound clip of the mother worker helped a lot to catch my attention and better understand the content of the documentary.
Hey Nicole! This was excellent!! You absolutely nailed all of the technical aspects of a podcast with great music, interesting clips from other media sources, and a clear tone and pace while speaking. It was a pleasure to listen to. You also presented really good information that told a complete story. I had never heard of this documentary before and I was fascinated by its story. I think of farmworkers’ rights as a relatively modern issue and I am surprised that people were organizing around this problem in the 60s. I honestly cannot think of anything you could have improved upon, and I also really appreciated the criticism you gave at the end.
Before this podcast, I had no idea what the Harvest of Shame Documentary was. I learned a lot about the issues that migrant workers went through, and I thought the stance you took on the documentary was very interesting. I liked how you weren’t afraid to take an analytical standpoint on the documentary instead of just giving the timeline or the facts. To me, that made the whole podcast way more interesting. I also really liked the clips you included from the documentary, and I thought they fit great with the rest of the presentation. One comment that I had was that you might have benefitted from including a bit more. It would have been great to have just a bit more analysis about the reception of this documentary. I think, in particular, it would have been interesting to hear how it was received from not just normal middle class citizens, but also from the farmers, and especially from the migrant farmers themselves.
