I loved all the creativity that you included in this project, the microwave in the beginning is genius! It is very well edited, the music in the background gives it a very polished and professional sound. I liked that Alice’s voice was included so much throughout the podcast as well. I appreciate that you included criticisms of the slow food movement and not just praise, I’m shocked at how expensive a meal at Chez Panisse is! While there is only so much you can talk about in the time frame, I think it would have been interesting to talk more about her role in the slow food movement. Was it built around her and her restaurant? Or was she simply the one that brought the slow food movement into people’s consciousness? Overall, this podcast is great! You did a wonderful job telling Alice Waters’s story.
I thought this was very well done! As Mia said I enjoyed the microwave and the different music that accompanied different parts of Waters’ story. I also liked how you transitioned from Alice to discuss the bigger picture of the slow food movement, but also how it’s not an end-all-be-all solution. I liked how you talk about the problems that also come with her concept and what can be improved on this method of food preparation. I didn’t know that her restaurant started as a small business idea to feed her friends and then turned into Chez Panisse. I agree with Mia that it would have been cool to hear more about her impact on the slow food movement, but I understand the time frame is limiting. This was a great job!
I thought this podcast was really well done. I learned a lot about Waters’ movement and her ideas. Her determination on using simplistic ingredients and recipes was interesting to because I think of fancier foods as being nicer or more desired, but I enjoyed learning about her perspective on the whole process and the slowing down of this process rather than just the ingredients of the meals themselves. I really liked all the different elements you included to make this podcast more vibrant. The music and various input sounds as well as the input of other’s quotes really helped to keep me paying attention and learn a lot.
I really loved this podcast, Rachel! Although we learned a bit about Alice Waters in class, this gave me a better perspective of her life. I thought it was really interesting to learn about why she started her French restaurant in the first place…it seems like things really came full circle as she opened her restaurant because she could not afford to cook for her friends all the time, but now a night at her restaurant costs $300. I love that you mentioned Wendell Berry – he was my profile subject, and I really like the connections that you drew between Waters and him. They both seemed to want to appreciate food and cooking more. I love the sound effects you included, and clips from Alice herself. I think you would have had the opportunity to talk about her benefits to the Slow Food movement more if you talked a bit less about the background of her restaurant.
