Interesting Images from My Facebook Timeline

I thought it was interesting that these images happened to pop up in my Facebook timeline after our discussions on bears and hunting. I see the portrayal of fuzzy, cuddly bears in the form of the sleeping bag, and I feel like the first image could have been an advertisement on display in Cabela’s. I was wondering what your thoughts might be on these images after the discussions we have had in class?

  1. wow those images really sum up the ways that we saw nature this weekend. In one sense we are dominating nature to make us consume it and in the other we are almost anthropomorphizing nature to make us consumers of this product. I don’t really know which way of seeing nature is better– maybe neither is.
Either way… I’m not going to lie though that sleeping bag is pretty funny

  2. While I completely agree that the sleeping bag here is quite funny, it is also a perfect example of how we see these wild creatures as cuddly. It is an ironic thought, but someone who loves bears like Tim Treadwell would probably enjoy the sleeping bag as well. However, Treadwell was too close to wild bears and ended up in a more literal position similar to that of this peaceful sleeping bag. I also think that the first image could easily be found inside Cabela’s, which would align with their theme of promoting the killing and preparation of animals for human benefit. I imagine many of the people who were shopping around Cabela’s would agree with the words on the image.
