Coffee
As an avid coffee drinker, I am a huge fan of places like Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, wawa, and cosmic cup. However, every time I purchase an item from one of these places, I am waste paper and cardboard while drinking hot coffee and plastic when I drink iced coffees and teas. Because I drink at least two of these drinks a day, these recyclable cups build up quickly and waste a lot of material that does not necessarily need to be used. Although I know that I am wasting these materials while am drinking out of them, I also realize that I need this caffeine that the coffee provides.
To fix this problem, I could start to use my own coffee mugs and containers instead of purchasing coffee at these places every day. Because I have a Keurig in my dorm room, it will not be very difficult to fill up a mug of coffee before class instead of running to Skillman Cafe every morning. I want to change this particular behavior of mine because I know that I over consume coffee and teas every day which wastes a large amount of plastic and paper cups. If I can get myself to start using my Keurig more and stop buying coffee from these other places, I will be able to help the environment and save resources that are wasted every day. Along with that, I will not have to throw recyclables into regular trash cans because there with be no trash produced.
Although this seems like an easy task, I think it will be somewhat of a challenge for me because I am so used to purchasing a drink from Starbucks in Skillman cafe every time I go to the library. However, I will just have to be prepared and fill up my mug with coffee before I leave my room. This will take a little getting used to, but I will be helping the environment while also saving money in the process.
