Currently, our stakeholders are firefighters considering the risk they face while saving lives. While firefighters are in a burning building they experience a lot of high-risk situations that can be mitigated by improving or implementing new equipment. Firefighters have commented on how their equipment such as gloves and boots have room for improvement as these pieces either lack quality or are too expensive. Firefighters have also commented on how their process for extinguishing a fire has very little technology implemented into their process. Our group aims to reduce the risk our stakeholders, firefighters, face while conducting their job. Other stakeholders include firefighter equipment suppliers, insurance companies, local governments, and homeowners, but we are more concerned with firefighters.
So far, we have reached out to a few personal contacts that come from our homes. We have also reached out to local fire departments that are close to Lafayette College. This keeps our engagement rather local but also gives us some reach into different communities and environments. This is important to consider as not all communities face the same issues when it comes to fighting fires, as the composition of buildings varies from location to location.
