This podcast takes into account the pros and cons of nuclear energy, using the nuclear reactor disaster that occurred in Fukushima, Japan in 2011 as the catalyst for discussion. While natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis were the factors that expedited the destruction in this incident, the “A to Z Podcasts” Team discusses the volatility and effectiveness of nuclear energy despite these deleterious factors, and determines whether or not potential risks are worth the benefits posed by nuclear energy.
I think the podcast was great as a whole. The pros and cons of nuclear energy were thoroughly examined using the Japan tragedy, and I liked how two members of the group took different sides. A small improvement would be to evaluate more closely the future potential for nuclear energy.
I had no idea there was a something called fission until this podcast, so that was great thing to learn. I had always thought it was just fusion. I also had always thought nuclear energy was an expensive form of energy. You guys could discuss more on how advancement and more precaution could allow nuclear energy to become more prominent.
This podcast was very thorough as to the benefits and costs of nuclear energy. The use of the interview style was very interesting and provided an innovative way of presenting the information. Something that could be improved is considering re recording sections of the podcast in order to provide more clarity in the audio of the podcast.
I like how you started with a joke, and love the use of a expert.I also liked the use of the tragedy in japan, as well as how you counter-enforced the idea of nuclear energy by justifying it in the shadow of the tragedy. However i would advise that you try to record again, and possibly use one of the microphones you can take out form the library to achieve a better sound quality.
The funny intro is a good way to catch the viewer’s attention. It’s structured well and fairly easy to follow. In agreement with Joe, I think certain parts of the audio aren’t as clear as the rest of the podcast. It would be a much smoother listen if the clarity is consistent throughout.
I really enjoyed this podcast. I thought you did a great job talking about the fukushima disaster and how it relates to our use of nuclear energy as a whole. I also appreciated Chris’s willingness to defend nuclear power, despite the push against it that usually follows disasters such as these. The podcast brings to light some important questions about safety vs affordability that I think will help shape the renewable energy debate going forward.
I highly enjoyed this podcast! You guys created a great atmosphere with the joke at the start, and I liked that the tone was kept interesting by relating nuclear energy to a recent event. The debate within the podcast between pro nuclear energy and against nuclear energy delivered the facts in an entertaining way too and did a good job to give a good picture on what we could be dealing with here if we continue to use nuclear energy. One thing that could make the podcast a little better in my opinion is if the host, who was also the neutral person in the debate, focused a little more on long term use of nuclear and give some analysis on how Japan is recovering and its plans for nuclear energy moving forward as it would make a noteworthy point.
