Godey’s Lady’s Book
Godey’s was a popular American periodical for women published from 1830-1898. First published in 1830 as The Lady’s Book, and famous for its fashion plates, it became Godey’s Lady’s Book in 1840, after the name of its founding publisher, Louis Godey. Edited by Sarah Josepha Hale from 1837-1877, Godey’s published mostly original content by a range of well-known and unknown authors of the time.
