- A monthly magazine published in Edinburgh, Scotland, by William Blackwood.
- First year of publication was 1817, the last being over one hundred years later in 1980.
- Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness was first published in BEM in 1899.
- Full of critical essays, reviews, prose, and sections of novels.
