Ellison so far
The first few chapter of Invisible Man have been eye opening and a totally different experience from reading Moby-Dick. The strange surrealist nature of the plot is a confusing reading experience because it makes you, as the reader, question what is real and what is not. When I first read the Battle Royal sequence, I thought that what was happening was real. After reading it again, and talking a little but about Ellison’s intentions I realized that it wasn’t real, like the actual events happening, but the emotions were meant to be real. In that case, Invisible Man has done an excellent job of conveying that emotion, mostly through shocking the reader. Ellison’s narrator so far has done an excellent job creating a mysterious, mythic, and obviously unreliable narration. I look forward to seeing what else comes up from the story and what else I can be shocked by.
