My grandma lives on a farm in Massachusetts. She used to have horses, goats, and chickens. Now, with all seven kids finally out of the house, she only has chickens. As a kid I thought this was the coolest thing ever. I still do. I love going to the coop and prying open the rusty door, red flakes and feathers already getting into my hair, and being on the hunt for eggs.
I took a picture of the chickens once when I was in third or second grade with one of those disposable cameras that made you feel like a professional photographer. I was proud of myself because my thumb wasn’t in the shot this time. My grandma looked down at me and gave me a warm smile that only grandmas can give and said, “That looks like a postcard.”
It was at that moment that I fell in love with photography. I just didn’t realize it yet until I actually took a class in my sophomore year of high school.
