Combining Doodling and Photography

I get ideas at the most inconvenient times. Especially with photography. Since I obviously can’t carry all of my equipment to class and since I don’t want to forget my ideas, I scribble sketches down on any available pieces of paper with any writing utensil.

scraps1Since I can’t draw my “sketches” are just stick figures with little notes and arrows pointing to where I want something to be blurry or black and white. I also quickly write down what I want the photo to mean, whether it’s going to be a series of similar photographs or a photo that is just going to stand on its own.

You might recognize this sketch (but probably not because my handwriting looks like Sanskrit and I can’t draw), but it is drawing for the photograph “Shedding Skin” which is located in the Gallery. And yes, I drew this in class in the back of my planner in high school.

Quick Explanation for these pictures: The sketch is something that I drew either in my senior or junior year of high school. The photo on the right is the final product of the sketch, which was my final project my first semester of my freshman year in college. The photo/sketch answers the question: If you could take a “pill” that would change anything about yourself what would it be and would you take it? People said things like confidence, empathy, green eyes etc. You can’t see the viewer’s eyes in order to make them  unrecognizable so that they are comfortable sharing their desires.
