My group is doing our Wikipedia page on the Easton Market District, which includes the Easton Farmers Market and the Easton Public Market. Our plan for this page is to talk about the basic information regarding the Market District and the history of its different components. We will also discuss the events that happen annually at the Easton Farmers Market. An interesting part of this research will be about the economic effect that the Market District has on Easton and the surrounding towns. The vendors are an important part of this research since they are the people and places that make the market possible. All of the vendors are local, and from what I have seen so far, they are all very focused on natural and organic produce and farming techniques.
Since this topic is specific to Easton and the Lehigh Valley, we will have to be aware about the resources we can use, especially because to submit research to Wikipedia, we can’t use primary sources. Online newspapers, such as the Lafayette run newspaper and the Lehigh Valley newspaper, and archives or special collections of information about the history of Easton will be helpful resources. We have found various websites that will be helpful in providing information for us to include in our page.
During class I was able to start my research about the vendors that are involved with the Farmers Market. I think that if we are able to split up the sections for the research while being able to edit each other’s work, we can be successful. The plan that I have for my section of the research is to find sufficient information about the subtopic and start by writing it down. Having all the information in a single document helps me to analyze all the information. I am expecting a challenge with writing since I am used to personal anecdotes, but those are unnecessary and unwelcome on Wikipedia. I am also going to be aware that this is writing for the web, so links and images are helpful in making the page connected and appealing.
