Dolphin Language

Our conversation about the “dodolphing pee test” and the “honeybee dance” got me thinking about dolphin language. The complexity of the way dolphins communicate and interact with each other is particularly intriguing to me. That is one of the reasons why dolphins are my favorite animals. This article from the Dolphin Communication Project provides some interesting views and information regarding dolphin language.

Yep, very interesting. Some of you may have attended or heard about this event on campus last year. The speaker, Thomas White, is part of an international group working to have dolphins declared “persons.” Others are working on a Declaration of Rights for Cetaceans. These are good examples of the kinds of language issues that our course is concerned with.
