Our conversation about the “dog pee test” and the “honeybee dance” got me thinking about dolphin language.The complexity of the way dolphins communicate and interact with each other is particularly intriguing to me. Yep, very interesting. Some of you may have attended or heard about this event on campus last year. The speaker, Thomas White, is part of an international group working to have dolphins declared “persons.” Others are working on a Declaration of Rights for Cetaceans. These are good examples of the kinds of language issues that our course is concerned with.
