First Semester Achievements

Subsystem Accomplishments

Compressor Team:

  1. Decided upon an air compressor/pressure vessel we thought best fit within the constraints/goals of our project and then purchased it, where we have it in hand
  2. Completed preliminary analysis of the mechanical efficiency of the compressor
  3. Designed modified fittings for our air compressor to accommodate for a thermocouple and a pressure transducer to read the outlet temperature and current/outlet pressure of the tank 

Turbine Team:

  1. Performed calculations to determine the expected storage tank depletion time associated with various models of air motor.
  2. Analyzed different expansion devices with regard to our desired criteria and selected a 1.8 horsepower Grainger Air Motor, which we now have in hand.
  3. Designed and 3D printed a model of the air motor mount, which incorporates rubber feet to dissipate sounds and vibrations during the expansion process.

Heat Exchanger Team: 

  1. Calculated effectiveness for heat exchanger design and created CAD Models to better show fluid flow. 
  2. Determined coil design and figured out integration with other subsystems. 
  3. Purchased coil for compressor and thermal energy storage vessel attachment.
