Subsystem Accomplishments
Compressor Team:
- Decided upon an air compressor/pressure vessel we thought best fit within the constraints/goals of our project and then purchased it, where we have it in hand
- Completed preliminary analysis of the mechanical efficiency of the compressor
- Designed modified fittings for our air compressor to accommodate for a thermocouple and a pressure transducer to read the outlet temperature and current/outlet pressure of the tank
Turbine Team:
- Performed calculations to determine the expected storage tank depletion time associated with various models of air motor.
- Analyzed different expansion devices with regard to our desired criteria and selected a 1.8 horsepower Grainger Air Motor, which we now have in hand.
- Designed and 3D printed a model of the air motor mount, which incorporates rubber feet to dissipate sounds and vibrations during the expansion process.
Heat Exchanger Team:
- Calculated effectiveness for heat exchanger design and created CAD Models to better show fluid flow.
- Determined coil design and figured out integration with other subsystems.
- Purchased coil for compressor and thermal energy storage vessel attachment.
