Making (Good) Sound Assignment

For our Making (Good) sound Assignment interview portion, Mekhi Bryant and I decided to interview each other on a iphone using the voice memo app on the phone. Listening to the interview you will notice how there is a lot of static when we speak into the microphone, We know that when conducting any type of audio recording, the best quality of audio (the one with minimum to no static) is greatly preferred.

My 30-minute framing exercise

I saw the only thing that the frame allowed me to see, it was very limiting, unless i moved the frame. In a surprising way it made me feel as if everything in the frame at that moment can mean something of importance. For instance a little leaf at the corner of the view can signify life or the appearance of life. The thing that changed my perspective would be the fact that the view that i was presented had to be examined fully, so everything that was seen through that screen meant to be, it wasn’t a coincidence.

My academic perspective and subjectivity

My major is Africana Studies with a concentration on Hip-hop and Hip-Hop Industry and Performance. I see the world as an artistic universe that has yet been used to the fullest. I would say that I approached these topics in the form of art; most of the time would either make a beat or I would make a song, but I am transitioning into coloring and photography. The stories of people not fitting in, or being artistically different from the masses and how they react to that. Also, I like the idea of the psychedelic and magics of the worlds (i.e. dimensions, crystals, etc…) I would use my documentary skills to be able to make a documentary/movie for my senior thesis, I would explore the student experience and the journey that they went through while that they are here in college. If I were to tell a story about a specific place I would talk about the secret garden, the reason why is because it is a place where i feel like the reasoning for its creation would be amazing to find out.

Myself as a Documentarian

I document stories, experiences, situations that I go through on a everyday basis. I document these situations in the music that I make; however, I want to transition into actual filming and incorporate more people’s stories rather than just mines. I regards to how much that I document, I would say that I document at lest twice every three days and the reason why i do that because those are usually the times where ideas and motivations usually come to me. With the representations that i create, I usually keep them to myself because i tend to not be fully confident in the quality of my work that I make and seem to change things from time to time.
