I am really glad that I selected the group that I am in and feel like we have a lot of good footage that will make a great film. It was impressing to see my group members Nely and Tracey go to work with the editing. They demonstrated a lot of creative techniques that if I was doing by myself would have been very difficult to do. This group has been easy to work with and I can’t wait to reach our ultimate goal and finish this film. I think selecting whats most useful and omitting information and shots that you really want to use but just can’t will be the hardest. I feel like we all individually captured great shots, and to see them come together will be even more amazing.

Interview Rough Cut

Still in the works. The interview went into being about a hour conversation about the craft. I want to use more b-roll and feel like I can get a few better talking clips that help the film be more explanatory as to the craft and its details. I also want to include different angles to get the film to be less boring. Maybe even a change in locations.
Interview Person
The person that I chose to interview is a Junior here at Lafayette College. John Rodriguez is a double major student, studying English and art. He is a good friend of mine. Very talented guy. For my interview I wanted to capture an artistic process in its rawest form. John was the best person for that with his studio dreams that are developing further here at Lafayette. John has engineered songs for himself and serveral Lafayette artists. The reason I selected John is because he is a great speaker and easy to talk to. I wanted my interview to have a very home – like vibe. In hopes of keeping John comfortable, and to give us a chance to see where the magic happens, we conducted the interview in his room. I felt like this is where he could be most honest and reflecting about his work while not feeling under pressure from the camera. We participated in many types of shots . The interview ended up being about a hour conversation in which I had a lot of film to work from. It was a good experience. I really learned a lot about John and myself as an interviewer.
NewTown
I really enjoyed this film , it was very emotional and very interesting. There was one part that stood out to me where the medical examiner said that every body ranged from haveing 3-11 bullets. There was then a part explaining how one of the teachers who was killed wounds had shown that she was lunging towards the unstable killer, trying to save the kids and the school. It was at this point where I realized how under appreciated school teachers , mentors , administrators and staff are. I thought that this spoke volumes to the role that these people have and shaping of our society. I was really impressed with the blending of homeshots and shots made for the film. I think it made the film have a more sentimental value. It did a great job of making a looked over tragedy be recognized. Great film !

Camera Person Reaction
This film was so thought provoking and interesting to watch. It was powerful in addressing real issues, and revealed oppression while at the same time being a thrilling documentary. Director Kristen Johnson does an outstanding job in using her skills to create a beautiful masterpiece. The way the camera was first person throughout the entire film gave me a chance to endure a journey with the documentarian to explore different areas of the world and different types of struggles.
There were many memorable moments in the film that really pulled on my emotions and made me think deeply. Mainly the scene about the woman that was a single mom in clinic in Alabama, there for an abortion I believe. This scene was so emotional for me as I never seen the woman’s face, yet the sound of her voice in addition to the footage of focus on her hands was effective in making me feel the sorrow, saddness, and disappointment in the room. Here Johnson even includes her own voice in that moment and you almost feel as though you are there in the clinic with them. There is also a feeling of hope as she comforts the subject and new friend through this emotional connection.
I really enjoyed how Johnson was able to give credit to the documentarian role in demonstrating what is gone through to create a film. There were a few things included that I wish I knew a little more about. For example the kid with one eye, and the part where the location is withheld and it seemed as if a substance was being mixed or something was being made. The film was overall great and I loved it.
