Hi Anna,
So, I really loved in the beginning when Mrs. Meyerson talked about coming to the United States, and reconnecting with her husband. I think it was be interesting to see some photos of her and husband around 1991 when she came to the U.S. I think it could be interesting if you start with that storyline before she introduces herself (just something to possibly play around with). I think this could be a really captivating way to begin the interview and hook the viewer’s attention.
When she is talking about interacting with students and setting up for lunch talks, I think it would be interesting to see some B-roll of her performing these tasks. Any B-roll of her doing these things could make the interview even more interesting. If it not possible to shoot her again, maybe you could obtain some photos of her at these events? Even just a photo of one of the posters she created or food she gets catered.
If you ARE able to obtain more footage I think it would be really interesting to get a shot of her with the rocks (specifically including her in B-roll similar to the one of the rocks which you already have). I think it is interesting that not only does she care deeply about the students in the geology department, but she is learning with them.
Overall, I really loved the idea and subject of this interview. She has a captivating story and a charming personality. When editing the final cut, don’t lose the shots of her talking about the students and closeness of the geology department. I think this the most important part of the interview.
Finally, all the b-roll you took looks fantastic, in focus and not shaky. I also really like the spot you decided to shoot the interview in the background is very ecstatically pleasing. Overall you have a lot of great footage to work with! I cannot wait to see the finish product! Good Luck!
Anna, I really enjoyed watching and learning about your interview subject. I think you did a nice job capturing her persona and I was able to learn a lot about her in only four minutes. I think your establishing shot is good, however I would’ve held it for a few more seconds before quickly jumping to your first B-roll shot. I also think some of your B-roll could have been shown a little longer, and there are definitely times when B-roll is needed because it felt like your subject had been on screen for a while. She speaks a lot about what she does at Lafayette such as setting up events and interacting with students, and I think some shots of these events could add a lot to your film.
Your story of Ana Meyerson flowed nicely and chronologically from her arrival to the United States, to getting her job at Lafayette, to now considering herself “family” there. I think you did a nice job letting her tell her story and you definitely have a lot to work with. I’m excited to see the final cut!
