I. Name of Group
C.H.A.N.C.E. – Creating Harmony and Necessary Cultural Equality
II. Purpose
To Create Harmony and Necessary Cultural Equality for all students at Lafayette College. The floor aims to provide information about many cultures, and promotes equality for all students regardless of race, gender, status, ethnicity, religion, or sexual-orientation. Therefore, preparing members for interaction with the diverse and multicultural demographic both on and off the Lafayette College campus.
Mission: The living group will provide means for cultural education emphasizing diversity and equality for all races and backgrounds. The means of accomplishing this goal will vary from different floor discussions and events. No one shall be excluded from living on the floor. All denominations, races, and styles of life will be accepted for membership into the living group.
III. Membership
a. Expectations
- Residents are expected to be open-minded individuals who are willing not only to learn but also to participate in other cultural practices without prejudice or discrimination.
- Members are also expected to treat each other with respect.
- Members are encouraged to share and participate in discussions which are linked to the purpose of the floor.
b. Recruitment/Application Process
Members will be screened based on their demonstration of their interest in cultural issues and possible contribution to the floor’s diversity.
IV. Officers
a. Responsibilities
- President – Coordinate all floor programs and other activities. Communicate board recommendations to other members and seek suggestions. Organize recruiting for the following year.
- Vice President – Intercede on the behalf of the President in his/her absence. Assist in the planning and execution of all activities. Attend the majority of floor events.
- Treasurer – Keep written documentation of floor budget and be able to reproduce it at a moment’s notice. Keep track of all purchase orders and expenses. Seek funds from other organizations such as co-sponsoring donations. Attend the majority of floor events.
b. Elections
All officials will be elected by democratic elections by the members of the floor. The election will be held during the end of the spring semester. A member may be nominated for a position more than once. Any member can be nominated.
V. Meetings
There will be one monthly general body meeting, which will usually coincide with the Resident Advisor’s floor meeting. Additional meetings may be held in case of emergency or if further planning or consensus is needed for a floor program.
VI. Room Selection Process
Senior floor members have priority room selection status based on number of years residing on the floor. All new member rooms will be put up for an internal lottery or a meeting will be held to decide on placements.
