The New York Times published a series of articles today, focused on women in the workplace. In businesses, where men still are preferred over women, some women decided to make a change. The series of articles starts off pointing out that business is a male dominated world (For Women in the Workplace, an ‘Upgrade Problem’, written by Nicola Clark). However, the series of articles shows hope through the success stories and dreams of women in the workplace.
One woman, Dong Mingzhu, is viewed as one of the toughest businesswomen in China. She has worked hard, in a male-dominated environment, to rise up to be the president of Gree, one of the leading makers of air-conditioners in the world. To read more about her, read the article titled, Setting the Pace with Toughness, written by Didi Kirsten Tatlow.
An annual get-together shows that women are still a minority in the workplace. However, businesses are starting to realize that gender-equality is the future. Read more about it in the article, Women Make Their Mark at Davos, Though Still a Distinct Minority, written by Katrin Bennhold.
Some women have started to teach other women in the workplace to be more assertive as shown in this article, titled The Codes That Need to Be Broken, written by Doreen Carvajal. This is also shown in the article, titled Not Afraid to Fight for Corporate Equality, written by Stephen Castle.
