I’m an undergrad currently studying Sociology and English, and I’ve been gaming for almost a decade now. I’ve played a variety of games, like Dungeons and Dragons 3.5-4.0, Pathfinder, classic and New World of Darkness, Exalted, GURPS, Fate Core, Dresden Files, and a large spattering of indie games that might get clumsy to list. I’ve also run most of those games, though I’ve only run Exalted and World of Darkness in extended play.
I’m the founder and president of a floor at my campus that celebrates tabletop rpgs, hosting events throughout the semester to get new players involved. This blog is my independent study project for sociology, researching and reflecting on how it ties to tabletop roleplaying games. I’m particularly interested in talking to people about what draws them to rpgs, what is immersive about the experience, and how the social dynamics in a gaming group compare and contrast to less recreational activities. I was given the opportunity to go to GenCon 2015 this summer to study these topics, which was educational, but also a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to go again on my own time in the future.
